I love when the title means something. This is in reference to the saying, “How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?” According to wikipedia, this question serves as a metaphor for wasting time debating topics of no practical value.
Castiel, you perfect, perfect angel. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
I love the dead angel wings! It’s one of my favorite recurring images on the show. It’s so sad and beautiful and perfect that their wings are shadows.
The scene in the Impala is so indicative of the rest of the rest of this season and the next. Dean is tired, sick of burying friends, stumbling along, making mistake after mistake because his eyes are closed and he just wants to sleep. Sam is angry, pissed, addicted to demon blood, and making rash decisions, running into danger whenever he can. They’re always like this: they can never be happy together or angry together. They’re always on opposite sides of the spectrum.
The FACE Castiel gives Dean when he talks about Pamela. I get that you’re pissed, Dean, but Castiel never asked her to look upon his true form. In fact, he warned her against it. I hate that the angels get heat for hurting Pam.
Castiel: Dean, we know this is difficult to understand...
Uriel: And WE... don’t care.
Castiel obviously cares. It’s adorable. Look how he’s hiding from Dean. He’s so afraid of Dean’s judgment. He has to pretend to be stoic and uncaring when he clearly is already loyal to Dean.
It absolutely horrifies me that Castiel and Uriel ask Dean to torture. I don’t think Castiel gets what a big deal this is (he looks very confused when Dean practically begs him not to ask that of him) so I can forgive him a little bit. They’re at war. People do crazy shit when they’re at war, because they have to.
Dean: I’m starting to think Junkless has a better sense of humor than you do.
Castiel: Uriel’s the funniest angel in the garrison. Ask anyone.
I think this line is utter perfection. Just the idea that Uriel being ‘the funny one’ is like, an established fact. It kills me. Oh, Castiel. You little baby angel.
Castiel: My superiors have begun to question my sympathies.
Dean: Your sympathies?
Castiel: I was getting too close to the humans in my charge: you. They feel I’ve begun to express emotions... doorways to doubt. This can impair my judgment.
THE LOVE IS SO PRESENT. IT’S HERE. IT’S HERE TO STAY. CANON.
Dean: You ask me to open that door and walk through it... you will not like what walks back out.
Castiel: For what it’s worth... I would give anything not to have you do this.
I literally want to quote this entire conversation because there is SO MUCH GUY LOVE.
UGH SAM, YOU’RE SUCH A DICK. I hate you DemonBlood!Sam. You are so mean and nasty and inconsiderate and you like having sex with demons and you’re downright rude and disrespectful to your brother. Wow, something happened to Dean in Hell? No shit, Sherlock, he had thirty years on the rack. You’re a douche.
Augh, Dean torturing is HORRIFYING. I want to weep and cry and throw things. I really do. DEAN BABY YOU’RE BETTER THAN THIS. Stupid fucking angels.
“Go directly to Hell. Do not pass ‘go’, do not collect two hundred dollars.” I actually want to say this to people.
OH GOD THE DEMON BLOOD DRINKING SCENE. I hate everything about it. It’s so un-Sam, the way he demands it from Ruby and how greedy he is once her arm is cut. It’s sickening. I miss our Sam. Actually I miss our old Dean, too. Hell does shitty things to families.
Props to Jensen’s acting skills in the torture scene. He scares the ever-living crap out of me.
Poor Castiel. You are doubting, and it’s okay! I love how dismissive he is of Anna because she fell, and he’ll be in her place in just a little while. Because he’ll find someone to fall for (U C WUT I DID THERE LOL). But all joking aside, Castiel fell for Dean, that’s what happened.
Oof, I hate this revelation. It is my least favorite “twist”, if we can call it that. That Dean is the entire reason this is all happening. The Apocalypse began because the Righteous Man broke and shed blood in Hell.
“As he breaks, so shall it break.” CHILLS. OOF. That hits Dean like a truck. You see it in his face. I’m going to say it again: Jensen’s acting is brilliant in this scene. He actively has to stop himself from bursting into tears in front of Alastair.
DemonBlood!Sam saves the day? Castiel is like “... what is happening.” When Sam’s like, “Now I can kill,” Cas is like, “Wut. I have a confuse.”
At least Sam clearly still loves Dean. That’s the one thing I’m clinging to right now.
“Strange.... strange how a leaky pipe can undo the work of angels when we ourselves are supposed to be the agents of fate.” Castiel, you brilliant angel.
Uriel: All you have to do is be unafraid.
Castiel: For the first time in a long time... I am.
FOUR FOR YOU CASTIEL, YOU GO CASTIEL. That’s the angel I know and love with all my heart!
Castiel: I still serve the will of God!
Uriel: You haven’t even met the man! There is no will, no wrath... no God!
AND THEN HE GOT MOTHERFUCKING STABBED THROUGH THE HEART THANK THE LORD IN HEAVEN.
“The Righteous Man who begins it is the only one who can finish it.” So, the Righteous Man is destined to become Michael’s vessel. That’s what I’m getting from this.
“Well then you guys are screwed! I can’t do it, Cas. It’s too big. Alastair was right. I’m not all here. I’m not- I’m not strong enough. I guess I’m not the man either of our dads wanted me to be. Find someone else. It’s not me.”
Here’s an honest to God truth: Up until now, I have never cried during an episode of Supernatural. I have flailed until my arms hurt, I have jumped up and down, and I have made weepy noises that make my roommate ask me if I’m dying, but I have never cried. Until this speech. This small moment when Dean lies broken on a bed with tubes running in and out of him and cries because he feels weak. This moment literally hurts me and I can’t help but cry. Dean is the strongest man I’ve ever seen. He’s seen and done so much; he’s a hero. And after everything he’s done, angels and demons and humans just keep asking for more. His father asked for more, Sam asks for more, now Castiel asks for everything he has and he can’t give it to him. He’s just a man... a great man, but a man. And the world asks too much of him.
I love you, Dean. That’s really all I can say. You made me cry tonight and I love you.
Sarah and Liz, two college friends (and soon-to-be-roommates) take on the challenge of watching some favorite shows from the very beginning. With all of the shows we watch, one of us will have already seen at least the first season. Here there be spoilers.

Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 15: Death Takes A Holiday
I’m guessing from the title of the episode that this means that people are going to be invincible for a few seconds? Woah. Heavy.
“All of God’s glory, fit to blog.” Wow. Just...wow.
Jensen, your eye-crinkles are distracting. Stop being so gorgeous.
Alistair? You’re back? Creepy as fuck. Hm. Welp. Okay then...that was creepy. “No thanks, House.” I love pop culture references. I also think astral projection is really interesting. COOL!
I love that Pam appreciates Jared/Sam’s butt. It is very lovely. I love that Dean put his arm through Sam’s chest. “Get out of me.” “You’re such a prude.” If I shipped Wincest, I would have been squealing at that. But I don’t ship it.
A demon took the reaper? And this new reaper is the one who tried to take Dean...twisted plotlines. Sam...please...don’t make a promise like that, that you can keep Cole there. Oh, boy. Demon smoke took Tessa, too? Great...
The kid doesn’t know who Mr. Miyagi is...that’s terrible. What is that stuff on the funeral home? Demon stuff? And the reapers...Also, Dean is amazing. He mastered the teleportation thing. Crap, they can’t get out if there’s iron, can they? Shit. Not goof.
Also, Alistair is a creepy fuck. And his voice sounds like...Marlon Brando as the Godfather. It’s freaking me out. One reaper dead, Tessa’s next. They better move the chandelier. Um, yeah, Tessa, good point. Where is Sam? IS PAMELA DEAD?! SHE BETTER NOT BE MOTHER FUCKER!
Why is Dean not back with his body?! CAS!!!!! You lightning-d Alistair! You’re amazing and I love you. “Because whatever I ask, you seem to do the exact opposite.” Cas, you know Dean so well.
“We’re all scared. That’s the big secret. We’re all scared.” Yes, yes we are.
“If you think you have good intentions, think again.” Pamela, you are so sassy and I’m pissed that you’re dead.
I live an Eye-Crinkles Appreciation Life. I live a Jensen’s Right Eyebrow Appreciation Life. I live a Jensen’s Lower Lip Appreciation Life.
Liz Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 15: Death Takes A Holiday (SPOILER BLOG)
I didn’t realize that the show dealt in immortality so much. We had that creepy immortal doctor in Season 3, then the immortal magician a couple episodes ago, and now this. Hmm.
Dean’s face when that dude mentions angels. He’s like, “If only you knew. Motherfucking angels.”
Sam is MEAN in this episode. It’s weird. He’s really angry and borderline cruel. It’s a little bit of role reversal. I seem to remember Dean getting pretty pissed at a guy who made a deal, and now Sam’s the one with the angry forehead asking if the guy’s seen anybody with red eyes. Calm yo face, Sam. Remember how I said before that when Sam is evil (like soulless or wearing Lucifer or whatever) he holds his forehead and his eyes tighter? He’s doing that now. It’s skeeving me out.
The sad thing is, they’re both kind of right about the whole ‘death’ debate. There is some sense to Dean’s whole “what’s-dead-should-stay-dead” thing, and I definitely believe that everyone has their time and we shouldn’t try to fight or cheat death, etc. etc. But Sam’s right too. They’re different; they’re special. Dean got ripped out of Hell by an angel, and Sam’s been dead once already. They’re important to the world and the normal rules don’t apply to them.
Ugh I just watched the clip and now I’m confused again. I agree with Sam? I don’t know. Their conversations go in circles. I feel like half the time they’re agreeing with each other and they’re just trying to pick a fight. Cut it out, children!
I actually screamed, “Holy shit, Sam!” when he threw Alastair across the graveyard. I hate when he’s all upped on demon blood. He’s a different person. A scary person. Not my baby Sammy.
Sam does tend to treat Dean like an idiot. He’s always surprised when Dean knows a piece of lore and he lies like he doesn’t think it makes him look like a shifty asshole. I don’t know whether Sam’s more comfortable in their roles as stupid-womanizing-older-brother and sweet-smart-sensitive-younger-brother, but NEWS FLASH SAM. Neither of you fit into those easy labels, so stop lying, man up, and treat your brother with the respect he deserves.
(Remember when I was in love with Sam at the beginning of this season and I totally empathized with him and was singing my adoration for him from the hilltops? Yeah, we’re done with that now. I’m about to get pissed.)
Pam is being mean. WHY IS EVERYONE BEING MEAN TO EACH OTHER. This is silly. It’s the Apocalypse, bitches. Can’t we all just get along? I guess she’s just upset and bitter because she lost her eyes an everything but still. No excuse.
Tessa! I don’t necessarily like her but I don’t hate her either. She’s just doing her job.
Dean: What the hell?
Castiel: Guess again.
This is how much I love Castiel: when he appeared and saved Dean, I literally flailed my arms, ran around my room, and collapsed into a heap on my floor. HE’S JUST SO DAMN AWESOME. I can’t put it into words! What a badass.
Dean: If you want our help, why the hell didn’t you just ask?
Castiel: Because whatever I ask, you seem to do the exact opposite.
YOU GOT HIM THERE, CAS. I love their relationship so much. It’s so angsty and full of tension right now, but still so intimate and beautiful and wonderful.
Dean: Don’t you think you could make a few exceptions?
Castiel: To everything, there is a season.
Dean: You made an exception for me.
Castiel: You’re different.
~~~~YOU ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION YOU ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION AND I’M ON MY WAY TO BELIEVING~~~~
Their love is so canon.
Dean: It’s okay to be scared.
Cole: I’m not scared.
Dean: We’re all scared. That’s the big secret.
I love this. I have a fascination with death and I love when they address it in this show.
“Trust your instincts, Dean. There’s no such thing as miracles.” Ugh, Tessa. You just ruined everything. Go away. I hate you.
“If you think you have good intentions... think again.” LISTEN TO PAMELA SAM. SHE’S ONE OF THE THREE SMARTEST WOMEN ON THIS SHOW (the others, of course, being Ellen and Missouri. Am I forgetting someone?)
Kim Manners dedication at the end made me tear up a little. R.I.P. Kim. We have the same birthday.
Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 14: Sex And Violence
I haven’t watched Supernatural in a few days, mostly because I’ve been incredibly busy working and dealing with family drama, so yeah...but I’m back, and I have to be honest. When I don’t watch SPN for a couple of days and then I go back to watch it, I just stare at the screen for like...15 minutes after the show starts because I forget how beautiful Jared and Jensen and Misha’s voices are.
Holy shit that guy is just beating his wife with a meat hammer thingy...SHIT! But it’s not...like...a demon possession or anything...so...what is it? Why are they so angry?
“She was a stripper?” “Dude, her name was Jasmine.” Wow. I love them.
He killed her for the stripper? They would be together forever? What?! That does NOT sound good.
Oxytocin? Isn’t that...the love hormone? YES! I know the randomest shit! I have the most ridiculous knowledge in my ridiculous brain.
Ooh, Sammy, you’re flirting. And Dean, you’re whining. Shut up.
“Perfect in every way that they wanted.” That’s...interesting. “Strippers. We are on an actual case involving...strippers. Finally.” I love the soundtrack to this show.
Siren? “Greek Mythology? What, I read!” Cute. Siren...that’s SO FREAKING COOL! Ugh, except sirens are freaking ugly. Hokay, so...that really sucks. About sirens making you do whatever they want.
“Supernatural STD.” Heh. Funny. HAHAHA that guy is probably a real FBI agent. HILARIOUS! Also, I love Bobby, cooking while he’s lying. So adorable.
Holy...I have....I HAVE A THEORY! HOLY GOD HOLY MOLY HELL ON EARTH AND CASTIEL’S BALLS BETWIXT HIS LEGS! The FBI agent isn’t real, is he? He’s the siren! Can siren’s be men? I mean, I didn’t think it had to be women. It’s just got to be “perfect in every way.” Yeah, this guy isn’t an FBI agent at all, is he.
Shit. And it’s going to lead him in the wrong direction, to the Doctor. Shit. Ugh, wait, no. I AM SO CONFUSE! Is the Doctor the Siren? Is the FBI agent the Siren? ARE THEY BOTH SIRENS?! What is happening?! Maybe they’re both Sirens, because...
Well...Dean would never trust anyone like he’s already trusting this guy. Does it have to be sex, to put the mojo in them...? Or can it be someone else? Like seriously? The FBI dude, he’s just...he’s perfect...He’s a perfect companion to Dean. He listens to what he says, makes Dean feel better about themselves. YES! I called the FBI guy. CALLED THAT ONE!
Shit. Oh, no. Ugh. NO! Dean, no, you can’t! HE CAN NEVER BE YOUR BROTHER! SAMMY IS YOUR BROTHER EVEN IF HE’S BAD AND HAS SEX WITH MONSTERS! NO!
So...Dean’s perfect person...is a guy. Not just a guy, but a little brother. But also...A GUY. But really...Dean’s Siren turned into a little brother for Dean, not a girl. Not...a stripper. Not...a mother, a father...a little brother who he can trust, who relies on him, who lets Dean take care of him. That’s what Dean sees in the Siren. That’s pretty depressing.
None of these things are true, that they’re saying to each other. Maybe they’re the tiny doubts that wiggle in the back of your mind when you can’t sleep at night or you’re worried about yourself...but that doesn’t mean they’re true. And yet...both of them are going to be sore about it for a while.
SHIT BOBBY I LOVE YOU. YOU ARE THE PERFECT MAN! ...in a non-Siren-y kind of way.
Liz Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 14: Sex and Violence (SPOILER BLOG)
Yeah, you knew when you saw that meat tenderizer that someone was going to get tenderized to death. Supernatural has us well conditioned.
Sam calling Dean ‘kiddo’ is borderline creepy. It makes me feel like Sam is starting to feel high and mighty over Dean because of this whole demon blood thing.
I love seeing Dean turn on the charm. Especially when it totally fails. JUST GO FIND CASTIEL DEAN. He loves your charm.
LOL THOSE ARE ALL DISNEY PRINCESSES WAY TO GO KRIPKE.
I LOVE BOBBY AND ALL HIS PHONES. Literally my favorite thing in the entire world.
Dean has a new best friend! I don’t care that this dude is totally evil, I just love seeing Dean having fun. I can’t stop smiling. OH DEAN, YOU’RE TOO PRECIOUS FOR THIS WORLD.
Sam totally has no idea what that doctor lady is talking about. He’s never been with anyone long enough to get tired of them... not romantically, anyway.
HNNGG JARED’S BODY. I CANNOT HANDLE IT.
HOLY SHIT. CAN I JUST POINT OUT SOMETHING THAT REINFORCES EVERYTHING I’VE EVER SAID ABOUT DEAN’S BISEXUALITY: the siren sees Dean and instead of becoming the obvious woman stripper who Dean would have everyone believe he desires, he becomes a DUDE. HE BECOMES WHAT DEAN WANTS THE MOST. I know, I know, you can argue the whole “he was just trying to be like Dean’s little brother” thing, but NO. I will stand by my theories forever.
“In fact, I really think you should get him out of the way, so we can be brothers. Forever.” OOPS DID I SAY BROTHERS I MEANT LOVERS. This is a siren, people. It’s all about the sex appeal.
“You know why I didn’t tell you about Ruby, and how we’re hunting down Lillith? Because you’re too weak to go after her, Dean. You’re holding me back. I’m a better hunter than you are. Stronger, smarter. I can take out demons you’re too scared to go near... You’re too busy sitting around feeling sorry for yourself, whining about all the souls you tortured in Hell. Boo-hoo.”
I HATE Sam when he’s under any sort of spell. He says the most terrible things. The worst thing about it is that sometimes he’s right. In some ways, he is a better hunter than Dean; he’s full of anger and vengeance and that can serve you well when you’re hunting evil. But that doesn’t make Dean weak, and it doesn’t make Sam strong.
Thank God for Bobby, that’s all I can say. He’s even doing the no-alcohol thing again! There has got to be something in that. What a guy. Love him so.
In conclusion: Bad!Sam has arrived, Dean is totally bi, and Bobby saves the day. WHERE IS CASTIEL.
Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 13: After School Special
High school popular kids are assholes. By the way. Like super-mega assholes. And it’s going to come back to bite them all in the butt one day. Okay, this Taylor chick is going to get what’s coming to her, too. People are assholes.
I am SO glad I’m out of high school. But did you know, if someone’s giving you a swirly, you should flush the toilet because you’ll be able to breathe? This is unrealistic. She would have died if the girl hadn’t flushed the toilet, not because she did.
That girl is crying blood. And her “You’re ugly” line made me think of the Sherlock Holmes movie, where he says “You wear a jacket.” I don’t know why.
Was she possessed by something? They went to Truman Hugh?! BRILLIANT! I love it. Oh, boy. Sam’s idea...I can’t wait.
High school Dean made me choke on my Frosted Flakes. I had to pause while I cleared my throat and got a drink. Ridiculous. Holy shit that guy is fine. And he sounds exactly like Jensen. Brilliant. I can’t even...
“Don’t need ‘em, sugar.” Ugh, you’re SO FINE! Oh, Sammy. You’re so adorable. And you’re not going to be a midget for much longer! I’m flailing so much right now. DEAN IS A GYM TEACHER HOLY GOD I CAN’T EVEN BREATHE I’M FLAILING SO MUCH. HE JUST THREW A BALL AT THAT KID’S STOMACH. I AM SO PLEASED WITH THIS. ALSO, HIS SHORTS.
“The whistle makes me their god.” Brilliant. Dean is so happy with this.
You’re going to shove your fist down his throat? Um, not if he shoves your fist into the food processor first. Shit. That’s pretty gross. Ooh, it wasn’t blood in this dude’s ear and coming out that girl’s eye. It was ECTOPLASM!
Don’t tell me Sam knew Barry. Shit. That’s intense. That was Sam’s friend? Oh, nooo! “You like animals?” “They’re a lot nicer than people.” That’s for fucking sure. Oh, boy.
Shit, BABY SAM! You can totally kick that kid’s ass. You totally can. Ooh, and Dean’s going to be PISSED when he finds out. That’s really depressing that Barry killed himself, though. Really sad. Bullying...I have so much hate for bullies. It’s literally enough to make me cry. I just don’t know how to explain myself here.
What happened to Sammy? Just getting beaten up by Dirk? Or more? I love the casting choices for Teenage Dean and Baby!Sam. They’re perfect. “So you and your family killed a werewolf last summer?” (What he should have said was:) “Why, yes, Mr. Wyatt. We did.”
I like Mr. Wyatt. For all that he basically encourages Baby!Sam to go to Stanford and leave the family, I think Sam needed to hear that. I think he really needed to know that he didn’t have to do anything he didn’t want to do.”
“Go have your Robin Williams, O Captain my Captain moment.”
The way this was shot, with frames of the present interspersed with frames from the past, where Sam is running his hand through his hair...Ugh, totally breathtaking camera work and editing.
WHAT THE HELL WHO IS THAT?! Was it still Barry? Or was it DIRK DIRKDIRKDIRK!
I want Sam to kick Dirk’s ass so hard. See, Sam can just...he’s trained to fight from a former Marine. He’s going to win every time. Ugh, Sam. You ended up making the bully the bullied, and now he’s out for revenge. That’s really depressing.
This episode...it’s hitting too close to home for me...I guess this just goes to show, even bullies have other things going. There are just so many things about our peers that we don’t know, that we’ll never know, and I can’t even begin to explain how much I don’t want to talk about bullying.
I’m glad Supernatural took this on and gave it another spin. I’m pretty pissed that Sam got dragged into it the way he did, and it’s easy to see that he was upset when he found out that the nickname Dirk the Jerk lasted after he left.
The good thing about this show is the inability of the writers to ever be completely serious. “He’s giving you the full cowgirl.” Dean...bby. High school isn’t even nice to Dean Winchester.
Poor Sam. Truman High was the first place he felt accepted, like he didn’t have to be anyone he wasn’t, and he was forced to leave it, to go back to being the "kid". And for Dean, it was exactly the opposite. I think, as viewers of this show, we’re so ingrained in our thinking that Dean is the “cool” one and Sammy is the “nerdy geek.” We really got a turnaround this episode, and I’m glad for it.
I’m also glad this is over...I didn’t want to try and articulate myself anymore.
I live a Teen!Dean and Baby!Sam Appreciation Life. I live an SPN Casting Directors Appreciation Life.
Liz Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 13: After School Special (SPOILER BLOG)
Oh my god. I love this episode. I LOVE THIS EPISODE. And I’m not even going to lie, it’s because of Dean in short shorts and Small!Sam flashbacks. That’s it.
This recap is all the more poignant when we consider that Mary would have been horrified by it all. She understood the hunting lifestyle, understood the thrill of hunting but also the need to get out. She didn’t want this life for her boys and I think it would have killed her to see the way John treated Dean and Sam. It’s odd: he treated them so differently, but the outcome was the same. He gave Dean an obvious inferiority complex and told Sam that if he was going to go to college, he might as well stay there. It seems like Dean was the one who tried to be the most like John, but Sam was the one who ended up being most like him.
Anyway. High school is truly a lovely place. I miss it every day. I wish I could go back. Sarcasm.
Colin Ford and Brock Kelly are perfect humans. They are the best. Colin is the perfect baby Sam and Brock looks JUST LIKE Jensen.
FUCK YEAH BROCK YOU ARE SO HOT UNF YEAH. Also I can say this and it’s not creepy because he’s totally twenty-five IRL.
The fact that, at one point in their lives, Sam was shorter than Dean makes me laugh. And he has to be like fourteen at this point, right? High school was good to Sammy.
“Got your lunch? Books? Butterfly knife?” HE LITERALLY SOUNDS JUST LIKE JENSEN HERE LIKE HOW DID THEY FIND THIS KID HE’S PERFECT.
It makes me sad that Dean never had any friends growing up. Sam is really friendly and personable and people like him, but the only connections Dean made growing up were with girls he hooked up with. I think this is why I love Castiel so much-- he’s kind of like Dean’s first friend. Which is adorable.
“You wanna take his place, midget?” ONE DAY SAM WINCHESTER WILL BE TWELVE FEET TALL. DO NOT MESS WITH HIM HE WILL SHANK YOU AND SALT AND BURN YOUR BONES.
Hello, Dean in knee high socks and short red shorts. I am completely okay with this. (By the way, anyone catch the lesbian gym teacher reference? She’s in Massachusetts getting married? Good one, Kripke.) Dean would’ve been a fantastic gym teacher. He mans that whistle like a boss. “The whistle makes me their God.”
Dean Winchester = Sue Sylvester. The best.
There’s something really weird about Dean’s face after he makes the cheerleader joke. It’s like he wanted Sam to laugh or agree with him or something, and when Sam didn’t, he gets let down. It makes me think that this whole manslut thing he has going on is a complete act, and that he thinks this is how men are supposed to talk about and treat women. I don’t know if I’m just reading so, so far into what’s happening on screen, but by the nature of film, every shot is deliberate and included for a reason, and I can’t imagine they would include Dean’s face falling like that if there wasn’t a legitimate reason for it.
They’re so little for being three years away from college! I underestimate how much growth takes place between the ages of fourteen and seventeen. It’s an crazy time.
Oh, Jesus. If I had been in high school with Dean, I would have either been completely and utterly in love with him, or I would have thought he was the biggest douchebag on the planet. Maybe even a combination of both.
It makes me so mad that poor baby Sammy really thought he could get out of the hunting life and be normal when all this time he was just lying in wait for Lucifer. UGH. JUST LET SAM BE, YOU DICK ANGEL.
“Dude, she wants me to meet her parents. I don’t do parents.” It’s cool, Dean, just date Castiel. He doesn’t even know where God is, so no worries.
I LOVE SAM JUST WANTING TO TELL THE TRUTH IN HIS PAPER.
Mr. Wyatt: Do you want to go into the family business, Sam?
Sam: No one’s ever asked me that before.
Mr. Wyatt: Well?
Sam: More than anything, no.
AUGH ALL THE PAIN. I WANT TO CRY.
My question is, how did Sam maintain his grades when they were changing schools every few weeks? That’s got to be tough.
I love that whatever it is that threatens Sam, be it human or monster, Dean threatens to rip its lungs out. Just precious.
BADASS BABY SAMMY. I LOVE HIM. He’s like “BITCH I FOUGHT A GODDAMN WEREWOLF LAST MONTH. YOU’RE EASY PICKINGS.”
Sad thing: it’s only when Dirk starts calling him a freak that Sam fights back. He fights back because for the first time, Dirk’s said something Sam thinks might be true.
Bullying is such a complex thing. It’s a very hot topic right now, what with all the bullying-induced suicides, and it’s easy for bullies to get completely demonized because of the atrocities they commit. I’m not excusing bullies from their actions, but most of the time, bullies become bullies because they’re in trouble. They’re being bullied by someone else, or they’re angry because they’ve lost someone, or they’re jealous or scared or upset. It’s a cycle that only ends when someone gets help.
Sam’s voice breaks when he says, “I’m not evil.” It’s just like when he was little and Dirk called him a freak. He needs to know that it’s not true. He needs to convince himself that he’s not a freak and that he’s not evil.
SAM GIVING THE IT GETS BETTER SPEECH~~~ This should have been included in the ‘It Gets Better’ campaign. Dear Bullied Kids, I know you’re sad now, but it gets better. Also, if you kill yourself, you might come back as a vengeful spirit and the Winchesters will have to salt and burn your bones. Sounds pretty convincing to me.
“You spend so much time trying to convince people that you’re cool, but it’s just an act. We both know that you’re just a sad, lonely little kid. And I feel sorry for you, Dean.”
AUGH. So sad, but so true.
The scene at the end where Sam talks to Mr. Wyatt breaks my heart every time. Because this isn’t just a matter of becoming a mechanic... it’s so much bigger than that. Getting out of this business is dangerous not only for Sam, but for the people he loves. And it might not always make him happy. So what’s more important? Duty or happiness? It’s a question that I don’t think gets answered, not for Sam anyway. Dean manages to make it work because he loves hunting, but for Sam, it’s different. Ugh, I’m actually giving myself an ulcer thinking about this. GACK.
This recap is all the more poignant when we consider that Mary would have been horrified by it all. She understood the hunting lifestyle, understood the thrill of hunting but also the need to get out. She didn’t want this life for her boys and I think it would have killed her to see the way John treated Dean and Sam. It’s odd: he treated them so differently, but the outcome was the same. Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 12: Criss Angel Is A Douchebag
I tend to agree with the title of this episode, actually. I don’t like Criss Angel very much, because he’s mostly just weird, and a lot of magic is just distraction and trickery. Not that I don’t like magic. I’m actually very fond of magic, and I do believe in it. However, that doesn’t mean I believe that everyone on the street can do it. This is difficult, because I do enjoy magic shows and magic in general, and I like the mystery of it.
Anything with the word ‘Death’ in it automatically terrifies me. And the guy on the street? He died? This is...very...interesting. I already have so many questions. TROLOLOL Dean’s face at the scarves.
Barry Bostwick is a real magician? I mean, his character Jay. But for real. He’s a real magician? “It beats dying.” “Does it?” Ugh. I like that they keep saying that Jeb Dexter is a douchebag. He is.
They’re leading Dean into a trap, aren’t they? Asshole magicians. But Dean, bby, why would you go anywhere without Sam? Oh God! Oh, no, this is like...a brothel or something, isn’t it? That music pounding in the background. Like...a Furries convention or something? Oh, dear God. That man is dressed in leather and is carrying a whip.
“You are really gonna get it tonight, big boy.” TROLOLOL “I think I’ve been had.” “You ain’t been had until you been had by the Chief. Oh, and before we get started, what’s your safe-word?” Oh. My. GOD THAT IS HILARIOUS DEAN’S FACE IS PRICELESS!
I’m missing something here, aren’t I? With Ruby and Sam.
“With rings, and doves, and rings.” Dean, bby, you are so clueless about magic. Even the name The Executioner sounds horrifying. Don’t tell me this is some kind of demon at work. I’m basically calling Jeb Dexter’s death by noose right now, but seriously, how is it transferring from Jay to Jeb? Also, of course the Chief wasn’t Dean’s type. He’s into NERDY BOY ANGELS!
“That was...not humanly possible.”
It kind of bothers me when people say that they want to die young. I feel like some of the best things happen when you’re old. And I, for one, want to see my kids grow up, graduate high school, college, get married, have kids of their own...I hope to see great-grandkids one day. Sure, I don’t want to be really old and living in a home because none of my family want me anymore, I don’t want to be sick for years, riding in a wheelchair and having someone change a diaper for me. In that case, I’d rather die before that. But if I’m going to die in my sleep after a hell of a long life...I’ll take that over dying in my prime any day.
Yeah, he’s not actually doing magic, so who is? Who works with him? One of the other old guys...Vernon or Charlie. What?! How did he slip the ropes on the chair? And seriously, boys, you didn’t check the room thoroughly first?
Yeah, I bet it’s Charlie, actually. Oh, Jay was going to kill himself. That’s slightly depressing. But for real...I bet it’s Charlie. So who else is going to die? Are Vernon and Charlie doing this together? Woah, womp, kidding, Charlie died. So Vernon?
Who the hell is this guy? Who was he? I’m so confuse...Charlie? Wait, what? Holy...is that Charlie? That’s Charlie? He’s immortal? And he worked with PT BARNUM?! I’m much more excited about that than about anything else happening right now. Yes, I am a geek. Sorry.
I’m mildly freaked at the thought of serious magic. I know I shouldn’t be, because this show deals with that kind of thing, but still. And wow, Jay...that was heavy, man. I’m obviously really glad that you picked Sam and Dean over immortality, but still, you did say he was your brother. And killing your brother...I’ve talked about it before, and I won’t go into it again, but yeah...heavy.
Is Sam going to Ruby now? I am depress. What the hell is it?
I live a Magic Appreciation Life. I live a Barry Bostwick Appreciation Life.
Liz Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 12: Criss Angel Is A Douchebag (SPOILER BLOG)
On the title: I have only watched one episode of Criss Angel and it was the one where he pushed a metal wire through his neck without hurting himself. 1) First of all, I have never liked magicians because they refuse to reveal how they did the trick and I don’t like being fooled even if it’s by a professional, and 2) Criss Angel professes to be the second coming of Jesus, which is actually insulting to my intelligence because that is suggesting that if Jesus came to Earth again, the first thing he would do is get himself a reality TV show. Sorry, dude. No. You are not Jesus. You’re a performing douchebag. So yeah, this title? Right on.
You know how Dean feels about witches? That’s how I feel about magicians. The ~~magic of the how~~ has never appealed to me. I like learning card tricks simply because I like explaining the trick to other people. I am a fun-sucker.
Sam: He’s famous.
Dean: For what? Douchebaggery?
You’re so eloquent, Dean. Also, I love imagining Sam in a motel room trying to get Dean to pick a card and Dean being like, “No, you girl! I’m sleeping!” but then doing it anyway because it made Sam happy. MY HEADCANON IS PURE FLUFF.
Doesn’t Dean find it at all suspicious that those guys can rattle off that address so quickly? Dean, you are a professional GET IT TOGETHER.
I really love the little things about this show, like the fact that Sam clearly tries to be as quiet as possible when checking the peephole, so he knows whether he has pretend he’s not there. So smart.
THANK YOU, RUBY for saying what I was thinking. I hate agreeing with her, but she totally gets me on the whole “working silly cases when there’s an Apocalypse about to happen” thing. Damn, Ruby. WHY ARE YOU EVIL.
“I hope I die before I get old.” I think they will. I can’t imagine them Bobby-aged. I don’t think it’ll end bloody or sad, as Dean puts it, but I think they’ll go out in style sooner rather than later. I, for one, would love to see an ending reminiscent of Thelma & Louise, where the boys hurl themselves and the Impala off a cliff. HOW BADASS WOULD THAT BE. And then they go to Heaven and chill with Castiel forever.
I’m obsessed with that moment when Dean is talking about how real magic is like crack and there’s a shot of Sam looking vaguely uncomfortable because he knows that he’s going through the same thing with demon blood.
I LOVE THE ACTOR WHO PLAYS YOUNG CHARLIE. It’s funny seeing him on the show. He’s probably the only guest star I’ve seen in another TV show and a movie.
DAMN IT, RUBY. Just leave. And how did she get a car? She is ridiculous.
Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 11: Family Remains
Okay, so ‘remains’ could either be like “they’re still here,” or it could be like...”they’re dead, here are their bones, ashes, etc.” I’m not sure which one I prefer.
Shit. I hate when the lights go out and then dead people come out of the closets. I’m actually still afraid of monsters in my closet and under my bed.
“This place is gonna sell like hotcakes. Well...it already sold, didn’t it? Isn’t that why the ghost came out? Oh, yes, Dean. That doll head is super disturbing.
So, these people had to know about the murder, right? I mean, yeah, I’m more than willing to suspend my disbelief at stuff, but the parents have to know, at least. See, if there’s a murder in a house (I’m not for sure on whether the following applies if someone died of natural causes), when the house gets sold next, the new owners legally have to be told about the murder. After that, it doesn’t matter, but for the first time a house is sold after a murder, it’s full disclosure.
Want to know how I know? I grew up in a house in Texas where a murder took place. That’s what’s up. Apparently the roommates who lived there were fighting about shit, and one was elsewhere in the state while the other was home. The one who was elsewhere called the house and let the roommate at home a message on the answering machine saying he was driving home to kill him.
And he did. And he forgot to erase the message, so the police knew who did it and caught him. But yeah...so when my parents bought the place right after that, the realtors had to tell them about the murder.
#iknowsomethings
Girl in the school picture was the dead chick? I bet it was! *singsong* I bet there’s something to do with the dumbwaiter!!
“Everything’s going to change.” Ugh, I hate that. And I’m also covering my eyes. Disgusting. “It’s gonna be different, I promise you. We’re gonna be happy.” What the hell happened to these people?
“We could tell them the truth.” “Really?” “No, not really.”
Why do I think the thing licking her hand isn’t Buster. Oh, dear GOD! Shit like this scares me. “Nobody move!” So of course, people move. Also, Dean’s a fucking badass. “Stop me.” And yeah, Dean’s going to stop you. Freaking badass.
Also, I hate things that creak. Why is she not a ghost? And why does she have a gun? “It’s Psycho Nell.” I don’t want this chick to kill anyone. Woah, that’s blood on the inside of the door thing. ”Please nobody grab my leg.” Terrifying. Ew! Ugh I’m covering my eyes so much in this episode. I can’t even...Ugh gross! And I hate it when things jump out at people. Basically, this is the scariest episode of this show yet. I am so terrified right now. I wish Liz was here so we could be scared together.
And of course I’m afraid that someone’s going to come to my bedroom door or out from under my bed or from inside my closet or something. AGH SO FREAKY!
Oh, chick killed Ted. What the crap. This is horrifying. And it’s just reminding Dean of Hell...I am so upset. What happened to Andy? Andy is their other son, I bet. But what happened to him? Got killed in a car accident. “Got himself killed.” That’s...well...that’s interesting terminology.
Rebecca’s daughter? What?! Ew. Oh, that’s disgusting. “So the daddy was the baby daddy, too.” That’s pretty funny. Dumbwaiter. I win. She’s kind of terrifying, even in the dark. Woah. Actually, maybe that makes her more terrifying.
Why do I think she’s leading Dean toward something? Those guns don’t seem like they’re just tossed around. THERE’S A BROTHER WHAT THE FUCK HOLY SHIT I CAN’T EVEN UNDERSTAND MY LIFE RIGHT NOW WHAT THE CRAP!
That sucks that Dean had to kill the boy. That really sucks. But seriously...I mean, they’re attacking them for no reason, pretty much. “You’re right, I wasn’t like them. I was worse.” “I did it for the sheer pleasure. I enjoyed it, Sam.”
Dear...ugh, Dean, bby, I want to hug you and hold you and make you feel better. This sucks. Here’s my theory. I think Hell would turn you into the very worst version of yourself, and Heaven would turn you into the very best version of yourself (minus angels, because they aren’t human). So of course you would be everything bad if you were in Hell, and everything good if you were in Heaven. Which means that you would completely enjoy causing pain while in Hell, but if you were in Heaven, you would go to any length to avoid it.
Maybe that’s just me rationalizing Dean’s behaviors, I don’t know. But it makes sense to me, and I’m sticking with it.
This was such a weird episode, mostly, I think, because we never really find out the whole story. Having watched three complete seasons of this show and about half of a fourth season, I think I’m used to getting all of the details, or at least enough to satisfy my curiosity, as far as the “monsters” go. We find out how the “monster “got that way, what the spirit is trying to avenge or protect. But in this episode...we hardly get anything. I’m left with so many questions about everyone.
I mean, the brother and sister (not Kate and Danny, the kids they had to kill), I guess they were twins, right? Otherwise, the father is even more despicable than he already was. And why not send them away or something? Why just lock them up in the house with you? And he seemed so surprised to see the girl when she came out of the closet in the beginning, I’m just not sure what to think.
I’m really conflicted about this episode. I liked this episode, despite my questions, because I thought it was a completely different storyline than we were used to for the show. On the other hand, I didn’t like it because I didn’t feel full after watching it. So I don’t know. It was a good episode, well acted and pretty well-written (aside from the unexplained things.
I live a Badass!Dean Appreciation Life.
Liz Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 11: Family Remains (SPOILER BLOG)
This is the episode where it’s not a ghost, right? It’s a person. I’m almost completely sure of this.
I like the title of this episode because the word 'remains' can be a noun or a verb, so this can be read as 'the remains of a family' or something like 'after everything else happens, family remains'. I think that's a very nice sentiment for this episode and for the show as a whole.
The thing that really freaks me out about this episode is that it happens to completely normal, everyday people. This family didn’t do anything to deserve getting terrorized. They’re not people who have angered a vengeful spirit, they’re not hunters haunted by past victims, they haven’t messed with the supernatural in any way. They’re just folks. It’s these kinds of things that make me afraid to do normal things like move into a new house because THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING EVIL THERE.
UGH. The “humans can lick, too” story gives me legitimate nightmares. I do not like it.
WHY DOES THE DOG ALWAYS DIE. I hate.
“What kind of ghost messes with a man’s wheels?” The kind that hasn’t met Dean Winchester.
I’ve already said it probably a million times, but I just don’t care about episodes like this. I get that Dean likes regular, run-of-the-mill spirit hunts and that he uses them to forget about what’s actually happening, but I just don’t care. I’m more preoccupied by the imminent Apocalypse and the fact that there’s a war going on between Heaven and Hell. So forgive the incredibly short review... I just don’t really have any comments.
I will say that my declaration of love for Dean Winchester still stands despite his admittance that he enjoyed torturing souls. Dean is human, as human as they come, and any person who endured thirty years on the rack would relish in a little give-back. It’s vengeful and it’s wrong, but it’s so very, very human. Dean represents a lot of what’s wrong with people (all of his vices, his stunted emotions, his anger) but he also represents what’s good about people as well: loyalty, vivacity, and big, big love. That’s why I forgive Dean, because I know he means it, because I know he’s felt enough remorse to rip him apart. Dean loves in such a big way and it’s really beautiful to see.
Okay, enough for now. I could actually write a thesis on Dean Winchester.
Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 10: Heaven and Hell
Uriel is creepy. “As a matter of fact, we are. And?” Cas, you are beautiful. What did Anna do that was so bad? Woah woah WOAH URIEL! I don’t approve of Ruby’s methods, but for real, man...she didn’t actually do anything to you.
Um...what just happened? Cas put his hand on the door handle and Cas and Uriel disappeared. She did something. What the hell? She sent them away...no, uh-uh...there’s something going on here. That’s way too convenient to just “pop into her head.”
“How’s the car?” “I got her, she’s fine.” EVEN SAM KNOWS THE IMPALA IS A GIRL!
PAM! I love her, but I feel so bad that Cas burned her eyes out. Anna’s freaky. Who is she? She’s an angel? What now? Anna was Cas and Uriel’s boss? Why am I still skeptical? Anna’s going to try and get her Grace back? Welp, okayyyy...
Alistair is “Picasso with a razor” in Hell. That’s a little terrifying. Wait...do what? Do WHAT?! I don’t think Ruby’s talking about using his powers, for some reason.
"Why would you fall? Why would you want to be one of us?” That’s such a good question. “Loyalty, forgiveness, love. Chocolate cake. Sex.” (I cut out Dean’s lines there, obvie, because I liked Anna’s better.)
Only 4 angels have seen God. I am depress. But...I think it’s interesting that they have to take His existence on faith, just like humans do. I kind of like that. “Grace Ground Zero is pure creation.” I like it.
Wow. That’s a giant tree. When I went camping over Memorial Day weekend, one of the local sights where we were was called “Big Tree.” Because my family is weird and likes that kind of stuff (me included, I’m not ashamed), we went out to see this thing. So we’re driving down the road, and there’s all these live oak trees.
If you’ve never seen a live oak, they’re insanely beautiful, just Google Image search it. It’s unreal in pictures, but in reality...it just takes your breath away. So all of these trees are pretty gigantic, and we’re all kind of like “Which one is the Big Tree, these are all huge.” And then we pulled up to a little parking lot, and I could see a clearing through a break in the trees.
When we stepped into the clearing where the Big Tree was, I swear, everything just went quiet. Anna’s line in this episode about Grace being pure creation is so brilliant, because when you see this 100+ year old tree, bowed with age, its limbs stretching in all directions, surrounded by the trees whose seeds came from this one tree...well, you can believe in Grace, in pure creation.
Anyway, back to the episode...
Womp. Someone took Anna’s Grace. That sucks. SHIT NO DEAN CAN’T GO BACK TO HELL! What did he do in Hell? I’m glad someone is forgiving Dean, even if it is Anna and not Sam, who should be the one to tell Dean this.
KISSING! EW! Kidding. More kissing. MOAR! Sex in the back of the Impala. That’s what’s up. That’s hot. NOMNOMNOM Jensen’s back. Um...Cas’ handprint is still on Dean’s shoulder. Why does it feel weird to me that Anna touched it? Probably because I already ship Dean/Cas. Oops. Yeah, that just happened. Oh, we’re going full Titanic here? Yeah, I guess if I was having sex with Dean Winchester, I’d go full Titanic.
“He has this weakness. He likes you.” YES! URIEL ADMITS THAT CAS LIKES DEAN! WOOT WOOT ANGEL CRUSH YEAHHH
URIEL, YOU DICK! YOU HAVE ANNA’S GRACE YOU ASSHOLE! Alistair’s torturing Ruby...I’m not sure how to feel about this. RUBY YOU BITCH! STOP IT! STOP CONFUSING ME WITH YOUR WHOLE LIFE!
OMG CAS’ LITTLE SMILE TOWARD DEAN! WHAT THE EFF?! And he looks so upset when Anna kisses Dean. At least surprised. Oh boy. Angels versus demons. Ugh, Cas’ big blue eyes. I can’t even...YES! Dean! You saved him!!!
And...Anna got her Grace back. And Alistair’s gone. Hm. Okay...Moar eyesex.
UGH this was the plan the whole time? Those boys! I can’t even...
The entire last conversation, because I don’t think I can explain my feelings on it well enough.
“It wasn’t 4 months, you know. It was 4 months up here, but down there, I don’t know, time is different. It was more like 40 years.”
“My god.”
“They, uh, they sliced and carved and tore at me in ways that you...until there was nothing left. And then suddenly, I would be whole again, like magic, just so they could start in all over. And Alistair, at the end of every day, every one...he would come over, and he would make me an offer. To take me off the rack, if I put souls on. If I started to torture. And every day, I told him to stick it where the sun shines. For 30 years I told him, but then I couldn’t do it anymore, Sammy. I couldn’t. And I got off that rack, God help me I got right off it, and I started ripping them apart. I lost count of how many souls...the things that I did to them...”
“Dean...Dean, look, you held out for 30 years. That's longer than anyone would have.”
“How I feel? This...inside me...I wish I couldn’t feel anything Sammy. I wish I couldn’t feel a damn thing.”
Jensen, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. I’m not sure how you make crying look manly.
On a much more serious note...Dean had to do some pretty harsh things in Hell, but Sam is right. He held out for 30 years. That’s longer than I’ve been alive. That’s longer than my sister’s been alive. 30 years is a very long time. Most marriages don’t make it 30 years, but Dean held out through torture for THIRTY YEARS, and got ripped apart every day.
Dean Winchester is my hero.
Dean: You are some heartless sons-of-bitches, you know that?
Cas: As a matter of fact, we are. And?
Augh, all the pain. After the Samhain incident, Castiel allowed himself to feel something for Dean, and he told Dean in confidence that he was having doubts, but then he went back to Heaven for a while and spent time around his brothers and he thought he remembered the path he was supposed to be on. But now he’s with Dean again and Dean is calling him names and he doesn’t want to let Heaven down but for some strange reason he doesn’t want to let Dean down either so all he can do is throw Dean’s words back in his face and pretend that they don’t matter.
I can’t deal with Ruby being nice. It skeeves me out too much when I know that she’s evil on the inside.
Question: Dean Winchester’s character in one sentence or less.
Answer: “Dude, you’re confusing reality with porn again.”
I love you, Pam. You’re the best in the world. She did not need to die!
It’s like Dean’s pretending that conversation between him and Castiel never happened. He says that angels are perfect and that they never doubt, but Cas TOLD him he had doubts and questions. Don’t forget that, Dean. Anna looks like the nice angel and Cas looks like the asshole now, but there will come a time when you look at Castiel and see family.
I think the fact that Grace creates instead of destroys is indicative of the idea that angels are inherently good. Some of them stray from the path, just like humans, but they’re inherently made of good energy.
Ugh, Dean/Anna sex. No thank you.
Okay, here’s my rant. I don’t think that Dean and Anna have any sort of emotional connection. He certainly doesn’t want her to get killed by angels and he obviously likes her enough to have conversations with her, but she’s not really his type of girl at all and he doesn’t seem to really seem to be attracted to her. She comes onto him, CLEARLY offers herself up, and Dean is Dean, he’s not going to refuse sex when it’s right there in front of him, and I have no beef with that.
What gets me is this: they have sex in the back of the Impala. The IMPALA. I’m sure it’s not the first time it happens, but it’s the first time we ever see it, and it makes me mad. The back of the Impala should be a sacred place, as weird as that sounds. For some, the backseat of a car might be a casual place to get it on, but the Impala is Dean’s home. Not only that, it’s Sam’s home, too. It’s one of the only constants they had growing up and Dean is having sex with someone he barely knows in the backseat and it just makes me mad.
Also, GET YOUR HAND OFF CASTIEL’S HANDPRINT, BITCH. They made such a point to show it happening and I want to be like, “Is that supposed to be romantic?” She’s touching the place on Dean’s body where he was pulled from Hell by another angel. She’s touching the place Castiel touched when he was putting Dean back together. She’s touching it like it belongs to her and that couldn’t be farther from the truth. UGH. Get out, Anna. I’m sick of ranting about how much I hate you.
Okay, I don’t want to lie, I watched this scene several times for Jensen’s back. UNF. I CAN’T STOP STARING. Seriously drooling over here. BUT I DON’T LIKE IT. I HATE YOU ANNA JUST GO BACK TO HEAVEN AND LEAVE DEAN ALONE.
Dean: Where’s your boss?
Uriel: Castiel? He’s not here. You see, he has this weakness. He likes you.
OH MY LORD THE LOVE HAS ALREADY BEGUN. Castiel literally has to stay away from Dean because he knows that Dean is his weakness, and that the minute he looks at Dean’s face he won’t be able to carry out Heaven’s plan. THE LOVE IS SO PRESENT.
I personally like this version of Alastair more than the one later in this season. That guy looks too creepy; it’s too obvious that he wants to see you bleeding on the rack. This pediatrician looks like he’d be friendly in another situation, and it makes it all the worse when he opens his mouth and all that evil comes out.
I know we’re supposed to dislike Castiel right now but I CAN’T. HE’S JUST SO ADORABLE. Seriously, with his hair and his flappy coat and his permanently puppy-like expression... he’s precious.
Again, I know that the whole Castiel-looks-away-from-Dean-and-Anna’s-private-moment-thing is because he feels ashamed about making Dean choose, but to me, it’s just FILLED with loving angst. Up until now, he could think to himself that Dean hated him because he was an angel, but now he has to recognize the fact that Dean hates him, personally, because he’s making the wrong choices. And he’s loved Dean since he pulled him from Hell, so that kind of hatred stings.
I think when Castiel says that he and Anna have a history, he means as friends and soldiers who fought together. I know there’s some discrepancy in the fandom, and some people ship them, but Anna clearly says that there’s no sex in Heaven. I think she and Castiel were merely close; they’re both obviously curious about Earth and they like humans more than angels like Uriel do.
Angels and demons standing around insulting each other is actually making me laugh.
Dean’s like, “SHIT DID I JUST SAVE CASTIEL?” and Sam’s like, “Dude, did you just save Castiel?” and everyone else is like, “Wait, don’t you hate that guy?” and Dean’s like, “I don’t know, okay, it’s weird,” and Castiel is like, “Love you, too, baby.”
I can’t really talk about this last scene. I don’t know why. I thought this time around would be easier, but it’s not. The only thing I can really say is that I love Dean. I love him so, so much, and that doesn’t change just because of what happened in Hell. It will never change. People make mistakes and this was a big one, but forgiveness exists for a reason. It exists because of people like Dean who deserve it.
Funny story about this scene, actually: the first time I watched it, Sarah was actually in the room and she was yelling at me to turn off Supernatural and come to dinner and I was like “SHHH I’LL BE THERE IN A SECOND THIS IS IMPORTANT” and she was like, “COME ON HOW MANY MINUTES” and I was like, “THREE MINUTES COME BACK IN THREE MINUTES AND I’LL BE READY” and when she came back, I was hunched over my computer making crying noises and going, “Dean, it’s okay, it’s okay” and she completely didn’t get it. BUT SHE WILL. HA. Soon she will understand my pain.
Cas: As a matter of fact, we are. And?
Augh, all the pain. Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 9: I Know What You Did Last Summer
Something I only noticed in this “previously”...Dean already called Castiel ‘Cas.’ THEIR LOVE IS BEAUTIFUL!
Anna...who was she trying to warn about what? Everyone...about...something....”The end is coming. The Apocalypse.” Who is this chick? Or I guess...what is she? She can see demons, like Dean could, before he went to Hell? DUDE! What is she?
At first I thought Sam was actually drunk and miserable, but he’s not, is he? It was a ruse! But NO! SAM, YOU JUST LET THE GUY HAVE $500?!
I don’t think Dean not wanting to talk about Hell and Sam not wanting to talk about what happened with Ruby are completely different, and it’s not fair that Sam’s pulling that shit.
I mean, they talked about this when Dean first came back...the crossroad demon wouldn’t give Sam a deal. But I guess we never figured out why. Harrumph.
I hate that people who aren’t crazy are institutionalized. I think that totally sucks. I don’t even know what to think about this. Woah. Both of Anna’s parents are dead. Sulfur? Demon. Blah. That is a really pretty window, by the way.
Anna knows who they are? The Dean? When she was listening, earlier? She was listening to the angels? First words she heard were “Dean Winchester is saved.” Wow. That’s crazy. “You’re 1-900-Angel.” Cute.
That marble angel is crying blood. That...is the most terrifying thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I can’t even begin to explain. Is that Lillith? Is that why is eyes flashed white? Or is that just a thing? Alistair.
RUBY ARE YOU ON THEIR SIDE YOU FUCKING BITCH!
Ow, Sam just stitched himself up and then popped Dean’s shoulder back into place. Hardcore. Yeah, I think Sam owes Dean an explanation about Ruby. She saved his life? Excuse me?
Womp. Okay...well, Ruby is in a totally different body...how did she get into Genevieve’s body? Oh. She was on life support...and a Jane Doe. I suppose if Ruby has to inhabit a body, someone unclaimed like this chick is better than someone who had a life to go back to.
Also, Sam looks like shit. And he looks perma-drunk. Bitch. RUBY YOU KISSED HIM! WHAT THE SHIT! But at the same time, TROLOLOL MARRIED COUPLE! I feel a little bit like a voyeur, I’m going to be honest here. “Yeah, but now I feel dirty.” Yes, thank you, Dean. WHY ARE YOU ASKING HIM TO SKIP THE NUDITY I WANT MORE NUDITY! Also, I’m going to hell. Womp womp.
“Oh, yeah, I’m possessing this maid for a hot minute.” OMG RUBY SO SASSY. SO CUTE! “Is the moment over? Good, because that was awkward.”
Haha, it was just Cas! Oh, and Uriel, that bitch. Anna has to die? But woof, so much eyesex happening between Dean and Cas. I like.
Also...TO BE CONTINUED I HATE YOU!
UGH. ANNA. No thank you.
I actually remember really liking Anna at first. And then she gets it on with Dean (which pisses me off MORE THAN WORDS CAN EXPRESS) and then she tries to kill Sam and she might have been working for the angels or she might have just been crazy and yeah. Now I hate her. But she was really very nice in the beginning.
Sam and Dean hustling pool is one of my favorite things in the entire world.
Sam is being such a sassy little bitch right now. Are you equating your demon affair with Dean’s experience in Hell? Because they’re not the same, Sam. You’re being a child. Just tell Dean about your demon girlfriend.
I wonder if the demons knew not to kill Sam because Lucifer needed his body. Lillith obviously didn’t know because she tried to kill him, but maybe once the first seal was broken in Hell... I don’t know. It’s hard to hypothesize about this since I’m not sure whether the writers had the entire storyline in mind when they wrote this episode.
Oh, Anna. I want to like you so much. You’re so sweet when you’re human. Even for a little bit once you get your mojo back.
Okay, so I’m guessing the whole Michael/Lucifer vessel thing was always in the works; that’s why the angels talk about Dean so much. They could dislike Sam for a multitude of reasons (demon’s blood, Lucifer’s vessel, etc.) but there’s really only one reason they would like Dean: because he’s destined to be Michael’s vessel.
“Dean Winchester is saved.” Superwho moment. This reminds me of Silence in the Library. Dean Winchester has left the library. Dean Winchester has been saved. Does this mean that everything that happens from seasons four to six is being controlled by CAL? Probably. Biggest twist ever.
It’s so funny. I can see Dean and Anna connecting already. She’s so unlike the type of girl that Dean usually goes for. Hmm.
FUCK IT’S ALASTAIR. OH SHIT. I hate this bitch. Do demons pick their vessels on purpose? Because Alastair picking a pediatrician, someone who has dedicated their life to taking care of children, to possess is just cruel.
I love how Sam and Dean fix each other up after fights. Also love when Sam popped Dean’s shoulder back in on ’1’ instead of waiting until ‘3’. Tricky, Sam.
The scene where Ruby goes into the dead girl’s body is probably the reason I started trusting her. Sam asked her to do something and she found a soul that was about to leave a body. She did this for him because she knew it would make him more comfortable working with her. Now, I know better, and I realize that she did what she did because she knew it would make Sam trust her and do what she wanted. UGH, Ruby. This is why we can’t have nice things.
It’s interesting that Ruby asks Sam to give up one vice for another. No drinking alcohol, Sam: it’s demon blood from here on out.
RUBY. WHY ARE YOU ACTING SO NICE. I hate when you act nice and sweet and like you care about Sam. I feel like Ruby is Sam’s big romance on the show, because we barely see Jess and Madison only lasts for one episode, and the fact that this is the closest we see Sam get to somebody since Jess and she ends up betraying him? That is so, so upsetting to me.
UGH. Ruby. Don’t bother apologizing to her, Dean.
Love that when Castiel walks into a room, his eyes find Dean right away. They’re on a mission from Heaven to find Anna, and one they do, all Cas wants to do is look at Dean. And Dean is looking back. I don’t know whether the director was just trying to emphasize “profound bond” but it comes across SO HOMOEROTIC.
What a cliffhanger. UGH. Anna. Blech.
Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 8: Wishful Thinking
Why do we always see a ton of skin when there’s a girl in the shower, but the moment Dean steps into one, we get absolutely nothing except maybe a sudsy mohawk? It’s mean and frustrating.
This is kind of freaky, though. I wouldn’t want this to happen to Dean, so I guess it’s okay. (But it’s not really.) What. The. Hell. Is. That!
“Women? Showers? We gotta save these people.” Oh, okay, Dean. “I’m something of a natural sensitive.” Wow. This girl is ridiculous.
Well, since Bigfoot isn’t real (according to Dean), what the hell leaves footprints that big? Good question, Dean. “That...is a big foot.” Nice observational skills, Sammy.
Amaretto and Irish Cream...he’s a girl-drink drunk.” Nice. And he took...the whole porno rack?
Why do I think this has something to do with those kids who were running by? The little boys. If a little boy was caught in a woman’s shower, they would have totally asked the chick not to tell their mother. And only pre-pubescent boys would go into a liquor store and only steal the porn magazines.
Her teddy bear? “We...are teddy bear doctors.” BRILLIANT! She wished for it at the wishing well? And it happened? That is a giant teddy bear. I am very confuse.
“My wished they were in Bali, so I think they’re in Bali.” TROLOLOL “He’s got lollipop disease.” Nice.
Woah. That coin is in there so good that it made the head of the hammer come off. Woof. That’s not good. MWAHAHAHA Called the boy in the shower thing! Aw, but Dean’s tummy hurts. Gross. I don’t do throw-up. The bear? He tried to kill himself? What? I love when Dean says please. It’s hot.
“And on Thursdays, we’re Teddy-Bear Doctors.” I love how interested Sam and Dean are in Hope and Wes kissing. TROLOLOL
“Easy.” At the same time. Cute. I love them. So, so much. “Take a look at Michael Jackson. Or Hasselhoff.”
“Kneel before Todd!” Welp, that’s a little kooky. Um, did someone wish for Sam to get struck by lightning? Ugh! Hope! NO! That’s depressing.
This episode kind of upset me, I think mostly because I wanted them to be able to get their wishes, but I know on the other hand that wishing for things never goes the way we think it will. That’s really upsetting.
“What happened down there? There are no words, there’s no forgetting, there’s no making it better. Because it is right here forever. You wouldn’t understand, and I could never make you understand.”
Welp. Depress.
I live a Teddy-Bear Doctors Appreciation Life. I live a Kneel-Before-Todd Appreciation Life. I just really like the way he says it.
So... these blogs are going to be really clueless until about halfway through when I go, “Ohhhhhh, it’s this episode!” and then we dance, we kiss, we shmooze, we carry on, we go home happy, whaddaya say?
First of all: sadness. Dean is a fantastic liar when he wants to be. Seriously. I believed him when he told Sam he didn’t remember Hell, even though I OBVIOUSLY KNOW HE DOES. It breaks my heart that he’s trying to keep this from Sam, though. Share the load, Dean! You don’t always have to be the big brother.
Also, either the writers of Supernatural purposely want Dean to be an archetype of the “straight dude” mentality or they are actually writing him as sexually confused. Actual straight guys (A LA SAM WINCHESTER) do not go around going, “Ooh, chicks in showers! Boobs! I like WOMEN.” Okay, Dean, we get it. You like women. YOU’VE MADE THAT PERFECTLY CLEAR. Now you just look like you’re compensating for something.
“There’s a Bigfoot out there, dammit, and he’s a son of a bitch!” I don’t know why I love this line, but I totally do.
LOL Dean and Sam are teddy bear doctors. How adorable.
This episode is on LSD. Seriously, someone was tripping when they wrote this. They were like, “What if a teddy bear came to life because a little kid wished it? He would be like mad depressed and horny and a total alcoholic! Sounds like a good premise for an episode!” LIKE WHAT IS HAPPENING.
Wes: ‘Careful what you wish for’. You know who says that? Good looking jerks like you guys. The ones who got it so easy because you happen to be handsome.
Dean & Sam: Easy.
Wes: Yeah. Women... women look at you, right? They notice you?
Sam: Believe us, we do not have it easy.
Dean: We are miserable.
The way Dean says this makes me really sad. We can’t see his face when he says it, so we can’t tell if he’s joking or serious or being facetious or whatever.
The only good thing about this episode is Todd and his wrath. “KNEEL BEFORE TODD! KNEEL BEFORE TODD!”
Poor Dean. I remember when I first watched this episode and I just thought he was tortured and shit on the rack. I think it’s an amazing plot development that Dean ended up becoming a torturer.
Anyway, this episode is eh. I think a trap that Supernatural falls into all the time is that they introduce this gigantic problem like Dean only having a year left or the Apocalypse or something, and then they have episodes like these that under normal circumstances would probably be be good, but now they just seem really inconsequential and insignificant. Like, yeah it’s sad that this town is all fucked up, but don’t you guys have BIGGER PROBLEMS? There are probably seals breaking somewhere and you guys are pretending to be teddy bear doctors.
Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 7: It's The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester
Ooh, Halloween episode? FUN!! And Castiel is back. Perf.
Ohh, that baby is very messy. Depressing. I don’t know why I wrote that. My brainnnn....That was a razorblade. Was it really in the candy he ate? Why do I think it wasn’t? Yeah, no way he swallowed four razorblades without noticing.
Oh, what moved the fridge. Witch? Hex-bag means witch, right? Goldthread. 200 years old...Celtic. 600 years old...Charred metacarpal bone of a newborn baby...100 years old. Hex bag from a witch? Eternal.
Dude, what the hell. That’s a horrible way to die. Her face was all burned up. Samhain...on Halloween. He was a demon, and someone wants to raise him? Excellent. “Leprechauns? Those little guys are scary. Small hands.”
Castiel! Who’s your big friend? Uriel. He’s a specialist at...destroying towns? “Jesus on a tortilla.” I’m glad Sam met Castiel. I’m glad the angels aren’t what he was expecting, mostly because I didn’t really like the idea of angels as Sam saw them anyway.
A kiln. A kiln is hotter than a fire! Does this mean the teacher is the witch, not Tracy? Womp. Kidding. Now, what were the angels’ actual orders? Not destroying the town, surely. WHAT?! What is this? Why is Sam smearing blood on his and Dean’s faces? Ew. That’s your brother. Sort of. Ohhhh, Samhain will think Sam and Dean are dead! I get it!
I hate cemeteries. I really don’t like them. I just get reminded of dead people (the point, clearly) and I always see things out of the corner of my eyes, and I’m just always really scared when I go to cemeteries. “Bring it on, stinky.” Cute, Dean.
Sam and Samhain both have long hair, so I can’t tell who’s hitting who. Sam’s face is like super constipated. Just saying. And Uriel kind of sounds like James Earl Jones.
Their orders were to follow Dean’s orders? What the hell. And Castiel’s speech? Hm. Another facet of our angel? Seems so. I’m not sure if anyone else noticed, but Castiel popped up in front of Dean twice now that we’ve seen, and I’m pretty sure that Dean didn’t even jump either time. He definitely didn’t do it in this episode. What an interesting relationship they have already.
I live a Castiel Appreciation Life.
Liz Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 7: It's The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester (SPOILER BLOG)
Let me preface this by saying that I am utterly exhausted. I didn’t sleep last night (Pottermore announcement, enough said) and now I am literally a monster of verbal destruction. I keep saying and writing things that make literally no sense, so just... bear with me.
Nightmares! Nightmares. Razor blades in candy? NIGHTMARES.
Ugh, I fucking hate witches. WITCHES ARE WHORES. Yes, I’m stealing Ruby 1.0’s line. I miss her.
I like when Sam gets ultra nerdy.
“Witches, man. They’re so friggin’ skeevy.” I literally love every word that leaves Dean Winchester’s mouth. I also love that they fight literally every monster on planet Earth and the ones Dean hates the most are witches.
Summoning Samhain is another seal, isn’t it? UGH. STOP BREAKING SEALS, LILLITH. YOU SUCK.
Poor bby Dean. Constantly tortured with thoughts of Hell. So sad. It’s okay, Dean. I know you think you’re bad, but you’re not. You’re perfect. You’re beautiful. I adore you. Just because you tortured in Hell, doesn’t mean you’re a bad person.
CASTIEL YOU MOTHERFUCKING CREEP. Love him just chilling in the motel room like, “Mmm, this is where Dean sleeps, I’m just gonna sit here and think about Dean sleeping and Dean doing other things that people do in beds yeah I may be an angel of the Lord but I have needs”. I just reread this and SERIOUSLY WHAT IS MY BRAIN.
Castiel: Hello, Sam.
Sam: Oh my god. Er, uh. I didn’t mean to-- sorry. It’s an honor.
Oh my god, I love when Sam acts like a starstruck little child. I kind of hate it when Castiel brings up the demon blood thing. Poor Sam. So good and yet so evil.
Uriel, you’re a fucking douche and I hate you. I hope you die (when I say I hope, I mean I look forward to it because I know it’s coming I just forget when so SHUT YOUR MOUTH FOR THE MOMENT PLEASE I can’t hear Castiel’s beautiful voice if you’re TALKING).
Here are a couple thoughts on Castiel:
Misha looks teeny standing in the same room as Jared and Jensen. Seriously.
I forgot how stoic Castiel is in the first few episodes he’s in. He acts just like all the other angels: flat and emotionless. It’s unbelievable to think that this is the same angel we see cry over Dean’s betrayal at the end of season six. He falls so far and learns so much in the next few seasons... it’s really amazing.
Okay, here’s the thing. I know that when Dean pauses after Castiel asks him whether he wants Hell raised is supposed to be because he’s having flashbacks of Hell and he doesn’t want Hell on Earth. But COME ON. Castiel is like, extremely close to his face, with his unbelievable blue eyes and Dean just LICKED HIS LIPS. I don’t know what you were trying to communicate with that, Dean, but the only thing you look is turned on... just saying.
Dean: It must be nice to be so sure of yourselves.
Castiel: Tell me something, Dean. When your father gave you an order, didn’t you obey?
WOAH. CASTIEL JUST SCHOOLED YOU, DEAN. This is another reason that I think Dean and Castiel are perfect for each other. They both have a blind faith in their fathers and always feel like they are a disappointment (at least, Dean did feel this way... I like to think he’s gained some perspective, but maybe not).
THE FIRST MOMENT CASTIEL BELIEVED IN DEAN AND TOOK A CHANCE ON HIM. AUGH. I WANT TO FRAME THIS MOMENT. I WANT TO MARRY THIS MOMENT (Also: eyesex up in here! He didn’t even break his gaze with Dean to yell at Urlel. He just held up his hand like BITCH WE ARE EYESEXING LEAVE US BE)
Poor Sam having his faith shaken. It’s so sad. It actually hurts to watch. He has so much faith and he’s been praying all this time. And now he finds out angels are assholes. It’s heartbreaking.
“You’re close to blasphemy.” Uriel, you are on the Lucifer-track. You have to love humans. That’s the whole point. God loves humans above everyone else, so angels have to love them, too. Them’s the rules, Uriel, you dick. Stop calling them mud monkeys.
Sam, I love your ~*~sexy man power~*~ but I don’t want you to be evil. PLEASE don’t be evil. Look at you, bby, you’re hurting yourself. I don’t like it. I love you too much.
GTFO Uriel. Bring Cas back please.
And here he is! Dean-and-Cas-on-a-park-bench scene! So beautiful. Dean is already such a good influence on Castiel.
“You misunderstand me, Dean. I’m not like you think. I was praying you would choose to save the town... These people, they’re all my Father’s creations. They’re works of art.”
Castiel, this is why I’ve loved you since the beginning.
“Can I tell you something if you promise not to tell another soul? I’m not... a ‘hammer’, as you say. I have questions, I have doubts. I don’t know what is right and what is wrong anymore, whether you passed or failed here.”
Castiel already trusts Dean with what he considers his deepest, darkest secret as an angel: that he doubts Heaven’s command. They are already best friends, I don’t care what anyone says.
CAS + DEAN = BFFS <3
Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 6: Yellow Fever
Any episode that starts out with someone running for their lives is not going to be good. This makes me think of the rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It looks like a normal, fluffy bunny rabbit, and then it turns into a horrible human-eating beast.
“Shoes off.” This man is very obsessed with cleanliness, it looks like.
Wait, they were nervous, jittery, scared, and then they died. Oh, God. Dean has the same thing, doesn’t he? TROLOLOL Dean is freaked out! Oh, My GOD!!!!! EYE OF THE TIGER! This is beautiful. I will now go watch that 5 times in a row.
They’re implying Dean’s a dick. That’s hilarious. But it also doesn’t explain why Sam doesn’t have it. Unless he’s immune to this, too.
“Baby gonna cry?” Nice. “I don’t wanna be a clue.” Bby, you’re so cute. Also...”woodchips.” I’ve seen the gag reels for this show too many times. Oh, dear goodness. Dean, bby, you are so terrified and it cannot be more adorable. “I’ll man the flashlight.”
That scream! “That was scary!” And his embarrassed smile afterward. Dean, bby, I just want to hold you and cuddle you and love you forever.
“Is he drunk?” Not only is he drunk, he’s scared out of his mind. “Know what? You’re awesome.” He was flirting, kind of. Cute.
The whole story with Luther. That’s so sad and depressing. I can’t understand why people are so freaked out by people that are different. That really upsets me. We’re supposed to be an evolved society, and people still treat people that are different like they’re monsters. “That’s fear. It spread and spreads.” Only explanation is that people are still afraid of what they don’t understand.
Dean’s rant. So cute. “And you? You’re gassy!” So amazing.
Oh man. It’s a tiny Yorkie. Sammy, please tell me this is either a hallucination or he’s trying to freak Dean out. I am so confuse! Hallucination. Azazel is dead. Okay, thank goodness.
Yeah, how are you going to scare a ghost to death? Oh, man, are they going to try and scare the shit out of Luther? Poor guy. He already died once, now you’re going to freak him out more. Awesome. So, Jared is not a short man. He’s something like 6’4” or 6’5” or something like that, and he’s not skinny and lanky, either. But Luther is HUGE compared to Jared.
The girl who plays Lillith is so freaky. By the way.
“You wanna go Hunt? I’ll Hunt anything!” “Aw, he’s adorable!” I AGREE! WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? WHY DID SAM’S EYES DO THAT?! SHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT!
I love Jared’s laughter in the background of the Eye of the Tiger blooper, and I’m so glad they put that at the end of the episode. That’s just beautiful.
I live a Dean’s-Girl-Scream Appreciation Life. I live an Eye of the Tiger Appreciation Life.
Liz Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 6: Yellow Fever (SPOILER BLOG)
Okay... I don’t want to do two liveblogs in a row, but this is kind of a gimmicky episode. Only because parts of it are freaking hilarious. So, we’ll see. It might be like a Ghostfacers deal.
I love seeing Dean afraid of puppies. IT KILLS ME.
LOL Agents Tyler and Perry. They are too much.
“We were friends. Hell, we were Gamecocks. It’s our softball team’s name. They’re majestic animals.” DEAN. KEEP IT TOGETHER. YOU’RE A PROFESSIONAL.
I. Love. Scared. Dean. Now that I know he has the fever already, I can completely appreciate all his little scaredy-cat moments. When has Dean fucking Winchester ever been afraid of a few rowdy teenagers? NEVER, THAT’S WHEN. HE CLEARLY HAS SOME SORT OF ILLNESS.
“Everything else scared him. Al Qaeda. Ferrets. Artificial sweetener. Those Pez dispensers with their dead little eyes. Lots of stuff.” I am afraid of all of those things.
OH LOL I FORGET THIS IS THE EPISODE WHEN SAM CALLS DEAN A DICK. AND THIS IS THE EYE OF THE TIGER EPISODE AHAHA I LOVE IT.
Sam: Dude, you’re going twenty.
Dean: And?
Sam: That’s the speed limit.
Dean: So, what, safety’s a crime now?
Sam: Dude, where are you going? That was our hotel!
Dean: Sam, I’m not going to make a left hand turn into oncoming traffic, I’m not suicidal! (pause) Did I just say that? That was kind of weird.
Seriously, props to Jensen for completely maintaining Dean’s character through the fear. It’s not easy, but I still see Dean there, despite the fact that he’s obeying posted speed limits and driving like a responsible human being.
“Am I haunted? AM I HAUNTED?” Dean, you slay me.
Sam: Turns out all three victims shared a certain... personality type. Frank was a bully, and the other two victims: one was a vice principal, the other was a bouncer.
Dean: Okay?
Sam: Basically they were all dicks.
Dean: So, you’re saying I’m a dick?
Sam: No, no, no, it’s not just that. All three victims used fear as a weapon, and now this disease is just returning the favor.
Dean: I don’t scare people!
Sam: Dean, all we do is scare people.
Dean: Well, then you’re a dick, too!
Sam: Apparently, I’m not.
“Our room is on the fourth floor. It’s high.” CAN I JUST QUOTE THIS ENTIRE EPISODE I WILL THANKS.
Sam: We’ve been ignoring the biggest clue we have-- you!
Dean: I don’t want to be a clue!
I LOVE THIS EPISODE MORE THAN LIFE.
Literally, there is nothing in this world better than the Dean-kitten-scream, followed of course by, “That was scary!” I seriously watched it eight times.
Drunk!Dean is totally hitting on that guy. TOTALLY BISEXUAL JUST SAYIN.
“This isn’t gonna work! I mean, these badges are fake. What if we get busted? WE COULD GO TO JAIL.” I am seriously dying. I completely forgot how funny this episode is. Scared!Dean is SO AMAZING.
This man is so smart. Seriously, he has one of the best moral centers I’ve seen on this show. He feels terrible for Luther and the pain he was put through, but he understands that Frank O’Brien was acting out of fear and desperation. He also knows that there’s no point in holding onto hatred or vengeance. Life is too short. The Winchesters could definitely learn something from him.
I don’t know how one Dean speech can make me laugh so hard while simultaneously breaking my heart.
Dean: I mean, come on, Sam. What are we doing?
Sam: We're hunting a ghost.
Dean: A ghost, exactly! Who does that?
Sam: Us.
Dean: Us, right. And that, Sam, that is exactly why our lives suck. I mean, come on, we hunt monsters! What the hell? Normal people, they see a monster and they run, but not us. No, no, no we search out things that want to kill us. Yeah? Huh? Or eat us! You know who does that? Crazy people! WE are INSANE. And then there's the bad diner food and the skeevy motel rooms and the truck stop waitress with the bizarre rash. I mean, who wants this life, Sam? Huh? Seriously? I mean do you actually like being stuck in a car with me eight hours a day, every single day? I don't think so! I mean, I drive too fast and listen to the same five albums over and over and over again and... and... and I sing along and I'm annoying, I know that. And you, you're gassy! You eat half a burrito and you get toxic. I mean, you know what? You can forget it.
Sam: Whoa, Dean. Where are you going?
Dean: Stay away from me, Sam. Okay? 'Cause I am done with it. I'm done with the monsters and the hellhounds and the ghost sickness and the damn apocalypse! I'm out. I'm done. I quit.
You know what’s crazy? Despite the fact that this is probably the closest we see Dean get to a mental breakdown, this scene is when he is the most normal I have ever seen him. He’s doing what any normal civilian would do when confronted by the supernatural: he gets scared. He gets self conscious. He questions his life and the choices he’s made. Dean is so jaded by his upbringing that he usually doesn’t understand how utterly bizarre it all is. And now it’s finally coming to light. And it’s kind of hilarious, in a really, really sad way.
AHH. WHY DOES EVERYTHING HILARIOUS ULTIMATELY TURN TERRIBLE. Dean is having Evil!Sam visions. So sad. The worst part is, Dean actually does have to see Sam become a demon. Well, not just a demon... Lucifer himself. It may be in the Future That Doesn’t Happen, but Dean still has to see it.
Of course Bobby can speak Japanese. He is the fucking best.
Things You Think You’ll Never See: Dean cuddling a Bible.
I think it’s interesting that Bobby refuses the beer. It was very clearly a moment between him and Dean. I wonder if Bobby felt that he was drinking too much while Dean was in Hell. You go, Bobby. You don’t need the drink.
Sam: How're you feeling, by the way?
Dean: Fine.
Bobby: You sure, Dean? 'Cause this line of work can get awful scary.
Dean: I'm fine. What, you wanna go hunting? I'll hunt. I'll kill anything.
Sam: Aww...
Bobby: He's adorable.
EYE OF THE TIGER CREDIT SEQUENCE GETS ME EVERY TIME. Jensen Ackles, to me you are perfect. Your smile literally lights up my life.
I love seeing Dean afraid of puppies. IT KILLS ME.
I mean, I drive too fast and listen to the same five albums over and over and over again and... and... and I sing along and I'm annoying, I know that. And you, you're gassy! You eat half a burrito and you get toxic. I mean, you know what? You can forget it.
Sam: Whoa, Dean. Where are you going?
Dean: Stay away from me, Sam. Okay? 'Cause I am done with it. I'm done with the monsters and the hellhounds and the ghost sickness and the damn apocalypse! I'm out. I'm done. I quit.
You know what’s crazy? Despite the fact that this is probably the closest we see Dean get to a mental breakdown, this scene is when he is the most normal I have ever seen him. He’s doing what any normal civilian would do when confronted by the supernatural: he gets scared. He gets self conscious. He questions his life and the choices he’s made. Dean is so jaded by his upbringing that he usually doesn’t understand how utterly bizarre it all is. And now it’s finally coming to light. And it’s kind of hilarious, in a really, really sad way.
AHH. WHY DOES EVERYTHING HILARIOUS ULTIMATELY TURN TERRIBLE. Dean is having Evil!Sam visions. So sad. The worst part is, Dean actually does have to see Sam become a demon. Well, not just a demon... Lucifer himself. It may be in the Future That Doesn’t Happen, but Dean still has to see it.
Of course Bobby can speak Japanese. He is the fucking best.
Things You Think You’ll Never See: Dean cuddling a Bible.
I think it’s interesting that Bobby refuses the beer. It was very clearly a moment between him and Dean. I wonder if Bobby felt that he was drinking too much while Dean was in Hell. You go, Bobby. You don’t need the drink.
Sam: How're you feeling, by the way?
Dean: Fine.
Bobby: You sure, Dean? 'Cause this line of work can get awful scary.
Dean: I'm fine. What, you wanna go hunting? I'll hunt. I'll kill anything.
Sam: Aww...
Bobby: He's adorable.
EYE OF THE TIGER CREDIT SEQUENCE GETS ME EVERY TIME. Jensen Ackles, to me you are perfect. Your smile literally lights up my life.
Sarah Watches: Supernatural Season 5: Monster Movie
...What is this insanity? Is this really a “monster movie?” FUN!!! “Straightforward, black and white case.” I seeee now why this episode is in black and white. And may I say, J2 is stunning in black and white. “Big pretzel.”
That doesn’t look like an actual vampire bite. Hm. Oh, jeez...Dracula. “Like a Dracula.” Ed is hilarious. “I’ve been rehymenated.” TROLOLOL
Is this episode like movie monsters are committing crimes? COOL! So, Dracula, Werewolf, Mummy...what’s next? And what’s the significance of Lucy’s lip-prints? They’ve shown it twice now..
Dracula has a motorbike? Skinwalker? Seriously? “The X-Files is a TV show. This is real.” Ed? Is Ed the skinwalker?
“You’re giving up your life for this terrible responsibility.” I don’t like Jamie for saying that, honestly. I’m glad Dean disagrees with her now.
Skinwalker is the Phantom now? Wicked. Oops. Guess not. Is it Lucy? Is that the significance of the lips? Ugh Frankenstein now? DEAN IS WEARING LEDERHOSEN!!!!
“Hey there handsome.” “SHUT UP!”
...Jamie killed him. That sucks for Jamie...and kind of for the Skinwalker. I don’t know. I’m really torn about this guy. With the other Skinwalkers we’ve seen, they’ve just killed people for the sake of it. I know that this guy did the same thing, but it didn’t feel like it. I don’t know.
All in all an awesome episode, I think. It was a nice change from all the MANGST that’s been happening. Although, I wish Castiel was here. I has a sad because he wasn’t.
I live a Dean-in-Lederhosen Appreciation Life.
Liz Watches: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 5: Monster Movie (SPOILER BLOG)
GIMMICK EPISODE. Liveblog time.
I like that this is in black and white. It’s really only because Jared and Jensen look sexy in black and white.
Dean: We still need to see the new Raiders movie.
Sam: Saw it.
Dean: Without me?
Sam: You were in Hell.
Dean: That’s no excuse.
HUH-LARIOUS.
Here’s the thing. That dude that plays Ed was a recurring character on Blood Ties, one of my favorite guilty pleasure TV shows (actually, a lot of the guest stars on Supernatural have been on Blood Ties... the girl from Wendigo, the boy from Bugs...). He played an asshole who gets sucked into Hell and turned into a demon. ANYWAY. I can’t look at this dude without thinking he’s a demon. So it’s messing up my perception of the mystery.
I honestly completely forget this episode. Is he evil? I have no idea what’s happening.
I just got very distracted by Jared’s tongue. Pardon me for a moment.
“Look at me! I came back from the furnace without any of my old scars, right? No bullet wounds, no knife cuts, none of the off-angle fingers from all the breaks. I mean, my hide is as smooth as a baby’s bottom. Which leads to me to conclude, sadly, that my virginity is intact. I have been re-hymenated.”
Silly Dean. Cas re-virginized so you he could sex you up himself. DON’T FIGHT IT.
They spend so much time in the midwest; I love when they mention my home state!
I think this episode is really funny. I don’t really have anything to say about it, but with the black and white, the music, the way everyone’s acting... it’s just silly. I like it.
I JUST WANT MORE APOCALYPSE STUFF. MORE CASTIEL PLEASE.
Dear Dean, please stop cheating on your boyfriend. Love, Liz.
